Privacy Policy

FieldNorth provides supplemental location awareness on iPhone and a paired Apple Watch. It is not an emergency service or a replacement for professional judgment, navigation, dispatch, communications, or safety equipment. We do not sell your location data.

This policy covers FieldNorth’s iPhone app, Apple Watch app, widgets, and Watch complications. Behavior depends on the installed build.

Account-free membership and earlier accounts

FieldNorth 1.0.4 (build 24) uses Apple subscription verification without requiring a FieldNorth account or sign-in. It does not offer account creation, sign-in or password reset, and does not include Firebase Authentication or restore Firebase sessions. An on-device installation identifier is used for local membership state. These changes do not alter earlier installed builds or confirm public App Store availability.

Earlier versions offered email/password accounts through Firebase Authentication. Removing sign-in from the app or uninstalling it does not itself delete server-side records. This policy does not confirm the current status of any earlier account record or establish a retention period. For questions about earlier account records, contact Support@FieldNorth.app. This contact is not an automated account-deletion facility.

Information FieldNorth uses

  • Precise location. With permission, device location services support position, addresses, headings, cross streets, maps, breadcrumbs, widgets, complications and paired-device updates.
  • Purchase status. Apple processes subscriptions and FieldNorth verifies membership. FieldNorth does not receive payment-card details. An on-device installation identifier namespaces local membership state; it is not a FieldNorth sign-in account.
  • Local content and preferences. Saved places, trails and display choices are stored on your device. Breadcrumb routes can remain after the app closes and can be cleared in the app; older points may be replaced as storage limits are reached.

When information is shared

  • Apple services provide maps, reverse geocoding and other location-related results, and process App Store purchases. Paired devices exchange location, settings and bounded subscription-access information through Apple connectivity.
  • USDOT/Esri address labels. When Address Numbers is enabled and the map is zoomed in, FieldNorth sends the viewed map’s bounding area plus a small nearby margin to USDOT’s Esri-hosted NAD service over HTTPS. This can reveal the area you view, which may be near your location. The service also receives connection information such as your IP address. Requests retrieve nearby address labels; they do not upload your saved trails or a FieldNorth account identifier. Service-provider handling and retention are governed by their policies; FieldNorth has not verified a retention duration and does not promise that these requests are anonymous or unlogged.
  • Downloads and hosting. State-pack catalogs and downloads use FieldNorth’s Firebase/Google-hosted distribution services over HTTPS. Those services receive ordinary request/connection information. Removing Firebase Authentication does not remove this distribution infrastructure.
  • Support email. If you choose to email FieldNorth, we receive your email address and the message and attachments you choose to send, and use them to respond to your request. Sending a support email is optional and user-initiated.
  • Earlier account-enabled builds may contact Firebase Authentication for account operations. Build 22 can initialize that SDK even without a visible sign-in screen; build 24 removes it.

Your choices and controls

  • Allow, limit or revoke location permission in device Settings. Background Tracking is controlled in FieldNorth Settings and by Apple’s location permissions.
  • Turn Address Numbers off in Settings → Map to stop further NAD requests. Address Numbers defaults on when no preference is saved, including existing installations that relied on that default. An explicit saved on or off choice is preserved. Build 24 explains the viewed-area transmission beside the toggle; turn Address Numbers off to stop further requests. The earlier unpublished build 23 archive had a default-off setting and is superseded by this correction.
  • Clear breadcrumbs and manage saved content in the app. Changing a local setting does not erase prior requests from a service provider.
  • Manage or cancel subscriptions through Apple Account subscription settings. Removing the app or an earlier FieldNorth account does not cancel Apple billing.

Security and retention

FieldNorth uses protections provided by Apple and its service providers. No storage or transmission is completely secure. Saved local content remains until cleared, replaced in normal use, or removed with app data, subject to device backup behavior. Any earlier Firebase account records are separate from local content; their current status and retention period are not confirmed here. FieldNorth does not operate a location-history service. For online provider retention, consult the applicable provider’s policy; no unverified duration or deletion guarantee is asserted here.

Children

FieldNorth is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We update this policy as FieldNorth changes and revise the date here. See NAD source and service limitations and regional pack coverage.

Terms of Use

Acceptance and eligibility

By downloading, accessing, purchasing, or using FieldNorth, you agree to these Terms and to applicable Apple terms. If you do not agree, do not use FieldNorth. You must be legally able to enter into these Terms and use FieldNorth only in compliance with applicable law, employer or agency policy, training, and procedure.

Subscriptions and payments

FieldNorth Pro subscriptions and free-trial eligibility are offered and billed through Apple. Prices and final offer terms appear in Apple’s purchase sheet. A free trial converts to the selected paid plan unless cancelled before it ends, and subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the current billing period ends. Manage or cancel through Apple Account subscription settings. Apple’s billing, refund, and eligibility rules apply.

Supplemental location-awareness tool

FieldNorth is supplemental. It does not replace 911, emergency services, dispatch, computer-aided dispatch (CAD), radio communications, agency-approved mapping, official navigation or DOT information, emergency-location equipment, agency policy, training, procedure, preparation, or professional judgment. FieldNorth does not guarantee responder safety, public safety, navigation outcomes, location accuracy, message delivery, or emergency response. Verify critical information through appropriate official and independent sources.

Accuracy and availability

GPS position, road names, address blocks, cross streets, highway identity, mileposts or postmiles, municipal boundaries, headings, tracks, pins, maps, and other information may be delayed, inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or unavailable. Results can be affected by GPS conditions, device hardware, environmental conditions, source-data or map-data errors, regional-pack age, operating-system behavior, storage, network service, and other factors outside FieldNorth LLC’s control.

Professional and outdoor use

First responders and other professionals must follow official communications, applicable law, agency policy, training, and procedure. For hunting, hiking, exploring, and remote use, FieldNorth does not replace preparation, appropriate maps, navigation skills, a compass, emergency communications, weather awareness, local regulations, or personal judgment.

Emergency, Track, Backtrack, and Pins

Any Emergency feature is a convenience tool and does not guarantee message delivery, recipient availability, network availability, dispatch notification, 911 notification, or emergency response. Use official emergency channels when appropriate. Track, Backtrack, and Pins are supplemental convenience tools; FieldNorth does not guarantee complete recording, positional precision, permanent storage, recovery of lost or deleted data, or safe route selection.

Offline functionality

Downloaded regional packs allow certain core functions to continue without active internet connectivity. Initial download requires connectivity; packs and real-world conditions may become outdated; device or storage failures may affect availability; and account services, maps, downloads, geocoding, or other features may still require a network connection.

Third-party data and services

FieldNorth processes and transforms data from OpenStreetMap, Geofabrik, the U.S. Census Bureau, state transportation or GIS agencies, other government and open-data providers, Valhalla, Apple, and other services. Source data may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information. Attribution does not imply sponsorship, approval, endorsement, or affiliation. FieldNorth LLC is not affiliated with any police, fire, EMS, DOT, government entity, or data provider unless expressly stated.

Intellectual property

FieldNorth’s app, site, branding, design, and original content are owned by FieldNorth LLC or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Third-party data and software remain subject to their respective licenses and attribution requirements. These Terms do not grant ownership of FieldNorth or third-party materials.

Disclaimer of warranties

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FIELDNORTH IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OR GUARANTEES OF ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, AVAILABILITY, COMPLETENESS, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE OPERATION. FIELDNORTH LLC DISCLAIMS EXPRESS AND IMPLIED WARRANTIES TO THE EXTENT THE LAW PERMITS. RIGHTS OR WARRANTIES THAT CANNOT LAWFULLY BE EXCLUDED REMAIN UNAFFECTED.

Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FIELDNORTH LLC AND ITS MEMBERS, OFFICERS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AND SERVICE PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES; LOST DATA, PROFITS, REVENUE, OPPORTUNITY, OR USE; OR DAMAGES ARISING FROM RELIANCE ON LOCATION INFORMATION, SERVICE INTERRUPTION, THIRD-PARTY DATA OR SERVICE ERRORS, OR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE FIELDNORTH. This provision does not exclude or limit liability that applicable law does not permit FieldNorth LLC to exclude or limit.

Indemnification

To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless FieldNorth LLC and its members, officers, employees, contractors, and service providers from third-party claims, losses, liabilities, and reasonable costs arising from your unlawful use of FieldNorth, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of another person’s rights. This obligation does not apply where prohibited by law.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using FieldNorth at any time. FieldNorth LLC may suspend or terminate access where reasonably necessary to protect users, comply with law, address misuse, or discontinue a service. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination—including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations, and indemnification—will survive.

Governing law, changes, and contact

These Terms are governed by applicable United States law and the law of the state in which FieldNorth LLC is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where mandatory consumer law provides otherwise. We may update these Terms prospectively and will revise the effective date. Questions may be sent to FieldNorth Support.

Giving Back

A portion of FieldNorth proceeds is donated to organizations that support first responders.

FieldNorth LLC periodically selects organizations whose work supports first responders and their communities. Donation amounts, recipients, and timing may vary and are determined by FieldNorth LLC based on available business proceeds and its charitable-giving program. FieldNorth does not promise a fixed percentage, amount, schedule, or recipient.

A FieldNorth subscription is a purchase of FieldNorth services and is not a charitable contribution by the purchaser. FieldNorth’s support of an organization does not imply that the organization sponsors, endorses, or is affiliated with FieldNorth unless expressly stated.

Safety and appropriate use

Legal & Liability

FieldNorth is a supplemental location-awareness and navigation-assistance tool. It must not be used as the sole source of location, navigation, emergency, roadway, highway, cross-street, address, milepost, or other safety-critical information.

Appropriate use

FieldNorth is not a substitute for official maps, dispatch information, 911 or emergency communications, agency-approved mapping or location systems, official highway or transportation information, professional judgment, situational awareness, required safety procedures, or required emergency and navigation equipment. Verify critical information through appropriate official or independent sources whenever circumstances require it.

Accuracy and changing conditions

Information displayed by FieldNorth may be incorrect, delayed, incomplete, outdated, unavailable, or imprecise. This includes GPS position, addresses and address blocks, road names, cross streets, highway identity, mileposts, compass and heading information, municipal boundaries, map content, offline regional data, tracks and breadcrumbs, and saved locations. Accuracy and availability can be affected by GPS conditions, device sensors and hardware, roadway or boundary changes, environmental conditions, software limitations, and third-party or open datasets.

Emergency and professional use

FieldNorth does not replace 911, emergency services, official dispatch or CAD information, agency-approved systems, radio communications, official navigation or DOT information, emergency-location equipment, agency policy, training, procedures, or the user’s professional judgment. Users—including first responders, search-and-rescue personnel, and other field professionals—must follow applicable law, policy, training, procedure, and official communications and remain responsible for independently verifying critical information. FieldNorth is not certified as an emergency-response, life-safety, aviation, medical, or other regulated safety-critical system and does not guarantee responder or public safety.

Emergency feature

The Emergency feature helps a user compose or share location information. It does not contact 911 or dispatch automatically and does not guarantee message delivery, recipient availability, cellular or network availability, dispatch notification, 911 notification, or emergency response. Use official emergency channels where appropriate.

Driving and equipment operation

Use FieldNorth only when it is safe and lawful to do so. Comply with all traffic and distracted-driving laws, and do not interact with the app in a way that creates an unsafe distraction while driving or operating equipment. At-a-glance features do not reduce the user’s responsibility to operate vehicles and equipment safely.

Outdoor and remote use

For hiking, hunting, exploring, search and rescue, and other outdoor or remote activity, FieldNorth does not replace preparation, appropriate maps, navigation skills, a compass, navigation and emergency-communication equipment, weather awareness, local regulations, training, or personal judgment. Users remain responsible for assessing terrain, weather, access, hazards, and changing conditions.

Track, Backtrack, and Pins

Track, Backtrack, and Pins are supplemental convenience and location tools. FieldNorth does not guarantee complete track recording, positional precision, permanent storage, recovery of lost or deleted data, or safe route selection. Maintain appropriate independent navigation and safety practices.

Third-party and government information

FieldNorth processes, transforms, or derives information from third-party, open, and government data sources. Those sources may be revised, delayed, incomplete, inaccurate, unavailable, or discontinued, and FieldNorth LLC does not control their accuracy or continued availability. Required attribution is preserved. Attribution identifies a source; it does not imply sponsorship, approval, endorsement, or affiliation. FieldNorth LLC is not affiliated with, sponsored by, approved by, or endorsed by any police agency, fire agency, EMS agency, state DOT, government entity, or data provider—including ODOT, WSDOT, Caltrans, TxDOT, OpenStreetMap, Geofabrik, the U.S. Census Bureau, Valhalla contributors, or Apple—unless expressly stated.

Offline regional packs

Downloaded regional packs allow certain core functionality to continue without active internet connectivity. Initial download requires connectivity, and not every FieldNorth feature operates offline. A pack reflects source information incorporated when it was generated; roads, boundaries, addresses, mileposts, access conditions, and other real-world information can change afterward. Device or storage failure may affect availability. Offline data should not be assumed to be the latest official information.

Service availability

Continuous or error-free operation is not guaranteed. FieldNorth functionality may be affected by GPS and network availability, device hardware, battery level, iOS or watchOS behavior, storage capacity, sensor accuracy, regional-pack availability, software errors, third-party services, and other conditions outside FieldNorth LLC’s control.

Disclaimer of warranties

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FieldNorth and its information and services are provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE,” without warranties or guarantees of accuracy, reliability, completeness, availability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or uninterrupted or error-free operation. FieldNorth LLC disclaims applicable express and implied warranties to the extent the law permits. Nothing in this section excludes warranties, consumer rights, or other protections that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FieldNorth LLC and its members, officers, employees, contractors, and service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages; loss of data, profits, revenue, opportunity, or use; or damages arising from or related to use of or inability to use FieldNorth, reliance on location information, incorrect or unavailable map or roadway information, navigation decisions, service interruption, third-party data errors, or lost or unavailable tracks, pins, or saved locations.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranty exclusions or limitations of liability. In those jurisdictions, these provisions apply only to the maximum extent permitted by law and do not exclude or limit liability that applicable law prohibits FieldNorth LLC from excluding or limiting.

Your responsibility

  • Use appropriate judgment and independently verify critical information.
  • Follow applicable laws, employer or agency policies, and required procedures.
  • Use required official systems and maintain appropriate backup navigation and communication methods.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment safely.
  • Decide whether FieldNorth information is appropriate for the situation before relying on it.

Data Sources & Attribution

The shared sources below have different terms and accuracy limits. FieldNorth preserves each provider’s attribution and processes regional data into separate offline state packs.

As of October 26, 2026, the current catalog provides offline road maps for all 50 states through 49 downloadable packs and bundled Oregon. Mileposts are enabled in 35 downloadable states plus Oregon, with limited coverage. This count includes Illinois’s limited published coverage; its status is Mileposts in progress. Broader Illinois coverage remains incomplete, and further expansion is paused. Florida requires app 1.0.5 or later and includes 3,428 marker records across 30 routes, with source-record and direction gaps; it is not complete statewide or both-direction coverage. See the Florida source, coverage exclusions, and redistribution-uncertainty notice. Arizona uses ADOT physical milepost records under permission for the described FieldNorth use, with source attribution and the ADOT disclaimer retained. The regional page identifies each state’s sources and availability. A missing or unreliable reference is omitted rather than invented.

National Address Database (NAD)

Address Numbers. FieldNorth’s Address Numbers feature uses NAD address points in builds that include the feature. Address Numbers is included in the uploaded 1.0.4 (22) TestFlight build. This does not confirm TestFlight processing completion or public App Store release; check your installed build and its Settings → Map controls. NAD coverage is not complete across the United States, and this notice does not mean NAD data is included in current offline regional packs.

Source: U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) National Address Database, compiled from state, local, and tribal government address data. USDOT identifies NAD as a federal government work in the public domain under 17 U.S.C. § 105, available for reuse and redistribution. NAD is not intended as a mailing list; applicable state statutes restricting mailing-list use still apply.

NAD is supplied as is. Coverage varies and may be incomplete or outdated. USDOT does not warrant accuracy, completeness, or suitability; NAD is not a legal description. Review the full USDOT NAD disclaimer, including its liability limitations and users’ agreement to indemnify, defend, and hold USDOT harmless. Attribution does not imply government endorsement of FieldNorth.

The optional online Address Numbers lookup sends the viewed map area plus a small nearby margin to USDOT’s Esri-hosted service; see the privacy policy for version-specific defaults, controls and provider-retention limits. Network access is required and continued service availability is not guaranteed. NAD is an independent dataset, separate from Apple’s basemap and geocoding services. NAD reuse rights do not grant rights to Apple map content or guarantee access to Apple, USDOT, or Esri services; applicable service terms still govern access.

Offline Regional Data

Downloaded regional packs can contain an on-device roadway graph and, where supported, incorporated-place boundaries or milepost information. FieldNorth verifies a distribution artifact before installation and uses installed data locally for supported road matching. Online maps, geocoding, account services, downloads, and other features may still require a network connection.

No regional pack guarantees complete or current coverage. Pack capabilities and source vintages vary by region. Highway map availability does not imply milepost availability. Enabled mileposts cover supported source records and road segments, not every highway. Older app or installed-pack versions may have different capabilities; see the state-by-state availability and minimum app versions.

OpenStreetMap & Geofabrik

Regional Valhalla road-graph packs are built from dated Geofabrik extracts of OpenStreetMap. Data © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.

ODbL applies to OSM-derived databases, not to the FieldNorth app code or separate transportation-agency datasets. Exact extract dates and state-specific adapted files are listed under Regional Data Sources.

Valhalla & valhalla-mobile

FieldNorth’s optional offline roadway-matching state packs use valhalla-mobile and Valhalla. The software is provided under the MIT License.

U.S. Census Bureau

Supported regional packs may include incorporated-place boundaries derived from U.S. Census Bureau TIGER/Line® Place files. FieldNorth uses these boundaries for presentation decisions such as determining whether a verified local road name may be shown within an incorporated city. Census Designated Places are excluded from that incorporated-city rule.

The current regional packs use the 2025 TIGER/Line release. U.S. government works are generally not subject to copyright in the United States under 17 U.S.C. § 105; source citation is retained. Exact state files are listed under Regional Data Sources.

Apple Services

Apple provides the map display, device location services, and address/geocoding results used by FieldNorth. Regional transportation agencies, OpenStreetMap, Valhalla, and the U.S. Census Bureau do not provide the Apple basemap. Apple’s own service terms govern its services.

General Data & Accuracy Disclaimer

Depending on the regional source, a displayed reference may identify a mapped physical marker or an official or derived linear-reference milepoint. A milepoint does not establish that a physical roadside sign exists. It does not establish your exact current milepoint, roadway, travel direction, or distance to the sign. A parallel road may be nearby. Confirm the roadside marker, GPS coordinates, and other reliable sources before relying on the display.

Milepost availability varies by installed state pack. Source types differ by state; some states have no published milepost data. Consult the regional source disclosures to distinguish physical markers from linear-reference measures. Offline packs can become outdated. GPS, road topology, administrative boundaries, addresses, road names, and cross streets may be incomplete, delayed, or inaccurate.
